McCray Zollicoffer Jr.
April 6, 1936 - February 24, 2019
McCray “Mac” Zollicoffer Jr. was a man with passion and purpose! His greatest loves were Christ, family, and faith-based music!
Growing up in Littleton, North Carolina, Mac was the fourth of seven children. Although he was “the middle child”, he could never blend in, even if he tried! With the sparkle in his eyes, the cheer in his heart, and his infectious smile, he was destined to shine!
Once a father, husband, and friend (to many), he spoke fast, words tumbling from his lips a mile a minute and often colored by a rich sense of humor, but when he spoke, you listened. His voice carried through with tenderness, intention, and wisdom. He had a strong and unwavering faith, a fiery spirit and celebrated God in full-hearted song.
It was his love for music and Christ that guided him to Saint Timothy’s Christian Baptist Church. There he began his journey; using his voice to sing about the goodness of God and speak to the soul of any listening ear. As an original member of the Christianairs of Baltimore, he led the group and spent 60 years traveling the country; spreading the word of God through song and ministry. He was a man on a mission, God’s mission, to use his God-given talent to teach others about the goodness of God and bring them closer to Christ.
Mac was also a powerfully kindhearted man, who lived life according to Proverbs 11:25-26 “He who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped. Curses on those who drive a hard bargain! Blessings on all who play fair and square!” With these words embedded in his heart, he donated generously to the lives of others, various charities and causes. His incredible selflessness and giving sprit directed all that he did. Hurricane and disaster relief, he gave. Food and shelter for the less fortunate, he gave. Schooling in underprivileged communities and countries, he gave. To others, he gave. He gave from the heart and looked for nothing in return, but the grace of God.
His legacy is sealed by wide the circle of community that surrounded him; and the many souls he nourished throughout his life. So many that he touched will forever cherish his memory.
To empower, encourage, and equip the youth of the Baltimore area to further their creative talents in the music and arts disciplines.
